This private cabin is located in the premiere neighborhood of Fern Valley in the charming mountain town of Idyllwild. Nestled in the pines on over a half acre of land, “Fern Valley Cottage” offers 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fenced backyard, garden and sitting areas. This cabin features Craftsmen architecture, touches from the 30’s and 40’s, a vintage Rachel Ray stove and Pine Craft furniture. “Fern Valley Cottage” is just steps away from Strawberry Creek, a quick walk to town, or a 5 minute drive to Humber Park's hiking trails. This yard is perfectly manicured. Come recharge and breathe in the mountain air at “Fern Valley Cottage” while taking in incredible views and so much natural beauty!

Pets: We (Do ) allow Dogs (2 maximum) (Cats may or may not be allowed depending on the property). There is a $130 pet fee (2 dog max) depending on breed and home; $170 pet fee for bookings between November 1st- January 15th. Stays beyond 3 days, or exceed the 2-dog max, may be subject to additional Pet Fees. IF CATS ALLOWED, it is a flat rate for the duration of stay of $250.00 or $500.00, it is all depending on the property. SPECIAL REQUEST PETS OUTSIDE OF DOGS MUST BE APPROVED BY PROPERTY MANAGEMENT PRIOR TO DAY OF ARRIVAL.
Guests under the age of 25 years of age will provide an additional security deposit of $500 on the day of arrival.

End of year get away

We had 3 lovely days in Idyllwild to hike, explore, shop and snuggle. No snow, but chilly and the comfortable beds and awesome heater made nights cozy and comfortable. The location of the property makes for an easy, short drive, or walk to town. Yet distanced enough to be private and off the beaten path, and quiet. The design of the home provides lots of privacy too, with bedrooms on either end. We loved the extra dining space and used the big table to start a puzzle. The cabin felt like a home with all the amenities, thoughtful touches, and mountain decor. We will return and I would highly recommend the property and management staff to friends. New Spirit staff were helpful and kind. We enjoyed great pizza at Idyllwild pizza, enjoyed the brewery food and drink, Red Kettle did not disappoint, and have a small addition to the chocolate at El Buen Cacao.
great escape for the holidays

We as a family wanted to escape to Idyllwild for an extended weekend. Our stay at this cabin was heaven sent. We felt like we were snuggled in the woods but “town” was conveniently close by. Checkin was a breeze as was checkout. We highly recommend this place to anyone. We definitely want to come back.

My three children and I enjoyed our stay at the rental very much. We were close enough to downtown and close enough to the trails that we enjoyed both with no time wasted in commute. I recommend it.

Overall Fern Valley Cottage suited our needs just fine. We chose to have breakfast and dinner in the house and lunch at local restaurants. We enjoyed being able to spend time on the patio and enjoying the trees and the animals.

My family had a great time at this lovely cottage. We enjoyed feeding the blue jays, walking to town and perusing around the area checking out the views. Would definitely stay at this cabin again.

Girls Getaway

My daughter and 14 year old granddaughter did a girls getaway. The cabin was perfect for us. It was cozy and homey. A 2 minute drive to the shops and restaurants. The area seemed to be really quiet and while there were neighbors, it felt secluded. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was nice and there were basic spices available and ample dishes and cookware. Nice gas range but not the vintage one noted in info about cabin. Website should be updated. There was an unusual heat wave with temps in the mid to upper 90’s. The cabin does not have AC, but the ceiling fans in the kitchen, living room, and guest room kept it comfortable. The master bedroom did not have a fan. Since we live a few hours away and I tend to get hot easily, I had brought my small powerful fan so we were able to keep the room cool although the office said we could call if we needed one. We were able to keep the house cool and reasonably comfortable. The bathrooms were nice and there was a nice supply of lotions, soap, etc. The master bath has a shower; the guest bath only has a tub. Owners may want to think about upgrading or adding a shower adapter.. We enjoyed looking out into the yard to watch squirrels play, feed the blue jays, and exploring the various sitting areas in the yard. Loved the Red Kettle for breakfast. And really good pizza at Idyllwild Pizza. Too hot to try to cook much. Be aware.....some restaurants and businesses close on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Wednesday. We definitely would come here again.

Went up during the snow storm. Had a great time. The yard is awesome. I will rent it in the summer so we can use the back yard and bbq. Loved the old stove.

cozy cabin getaway

The cabin was adorable with lovely inspirational sayings decorating every room and cute wooden bears and squirrels all around. The neighborhood was beautiful for walking the dogs in and the cabin's proximity to town was a real plus. The heat worked well in the master bedroom suite, but never seemed to warm up the family room, which is where we spent much of our time. I was disappointed to find there were no spices in the kitchen nor was there any cooking oil, which hindered our cooking ability. Luckily I brought everything else we needed from home. The property management was mixed. One woman working there was clueless and completely inflexible. I had called from home and was told unequivocally that there was a DVD player in the unit. There was not! Also, because we hadn't cleared out at the stroke of 10 am and despite our having phoned several times to inquire about check-out time, this same young woman insisted we would be penalized with a late check-out fee. The cabin was truly a gem; the property management staff was not.

Lovely Cabin

Great Cabin - Lots of room and easy walk to town / big yard. Only thing I'd note is while the backyard is fenced in, if you have a smaller dog, not sure the fence would keep them in, and there was one place we had to move some stuff to block a missing section of fence. Not an issue with our St. Bernard though (who liked the cabin and yard as well) and is just way too big and clumsy to escape.

Great vintage cabin!

We've rented mountain cabins before, but this was our first in Idyllwild. It's about a 1/2 mile walk to town and is very cozy with the vintage cabin charm. Everything seemed to be in good working order except the electric fireplace in the master bedroom only has lights, no heat, but the wood stove in the living room and the forced air unit worked very well. There were lots of squirrels, rabbits, hummingbirds and bluejays every day to watch. The deadbolt on the front door is a bit tricky to open, being vintage, and I had to call the office to get someone to get us in. I wish the entire property was fenced as I would've liked to enjoy the more private front patio side with the dogs.
My only issue with the property is that even though the backyard is "fenced", I wouldn't exactly say it was secure/safe if you have inquisitive dogs/kids. It's got welded wire fencing about 3 feet tall with short wood fencing on the neighbor's side, but there were tall piles of wood/tools/storage against 2 sides that can easily be climbed on to get out and a few wood fence boards missing. One of the guys from the office was kind enough to move some ladders that were against the wood fence to block the fence gaps so my dog didn't try to get out. Even with this, I still had to keep a close eye out when the dogs were in the backyard as one of them got stuck between the wood pile and the fence when he climbed on it.

Nana and Papa's place couldn't be more perfect! The layout of the home allows everyone space and with plenty of areas to sit outside it was tranquil.The location of the property was perfect as it is close to town and yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet of the night.
